Friends by the Sea

Today I (Fiona) woke up super excited to see my best friend Olympia! I eagerly got dressed and went down for breakfast. Breakfast was really good, I guess this hotel really does have the best breakfast on the island (that's what Susanne said)! About 10 minutes later our friends arrived and led us to their favorite beach, Aspros Gialos, on the northern end of Ithaki. After a while of swimming I heard something about a secret beach, I asked what is the secret beach, Susanne said it's a beach that you swim to! So I put on my goggles and started swimming to the secret beach with my friends!

After 3 hours of fun in the sun, we drove to go get lunch at our friends' favorite restaurant in Frikes. While April, Penelope, Olympia and I waited for our food, we went down to the water and collected water snails and crabs. When I kept going down to get a water snail I kept getting my shorts wet (luckily my shorts weren't white!).

Once our lunch came we ate, then the kids went to get ice cream. After the kids got ice cream we got back in our cars and the parents drove us to the park! Since the church was right next to the playground we went inside and April and I both lit a candle for Granny. Once we lit the candle we went to the park and played grounders.

After we played grounders for about half an hour we went and saw a diorama of Oddyseus' palace in Ithaki! Apparently there is evidence that Odysseus was a real historical person who was king of Ithaki. The diorama is a reconstruction of the ruins of the palace.

Next to the diorama is a map of Odysseus's journey as it is described by Homer in The Odyssey. The best part about the map is that we were standing on the last stop (14) which is Ithaki, and two weeks ago we were swimming beside stop 10, the island of the Sirens off the Amalfi Coast!

After we admired the diorama we drove back to the house, took showers and got ready for dinner.

Before dinner we went to our friends' house. April, Penelope, Olympia and I all went to play "Bump" at the basketball court just below their house. Mum and Dad had a lovely visit with Susanne.

I loved seeing their beautiful house, the wonderful view, and now I know why they love spending their summers there so much.

Dinner by the water was beautiful! Once the bread came out me and Olympia threw some to the fish (some of the fish were one foot long!). I got my favorite appetizer, warm feta cheese in a phylo pastry with honey and sesame seeds. I also tried sea urchin eggs which tasted a bit like the sea.

Today there were friends by the sea with me!

Love,

Fiona 🌊🦞
